EXTERNAL MATTERS - MUNICIPAL In recognition of the visit of Queen Eliza- beth to New Westminster, the New Westminster City Council has created a scholarship com- memorating the Royal Visit for a student attending Douglas College. The College and representatives of the city are meeting to establish the criteria for this scholarship. B. EXTERNAL MATTERS - EDUCATIONAL On February 18, the College was host to the Provincial Anthropology - Sociology Articula- tion Committee, representing all colleges and provincial universities. On March 1, Gordon Gilgan and I met with Dr. Roy Thordarson of the College of Dental Sur- gions to discuss further the aspirations of Douglas College and the College of Dental Surgeons regarding the offering of Level III Dental Auxiliary (Dental Hygienist) training. Agreement was reached regarding continued efforts in this direction. On March 2, Gordon Gilgan, Andy Andrews and I met with the District Superintendent of Schools in New Westminster regarding the pos- sibility of joint programming between the College and the School District in basic vo- cational preparation (TRAC). I had a similar meeting with Mr. Ted Killough, the District's Superintendent of Schools, Maple Ridge, to- day. I expect to have meetings with the superintendents of Coquitlam and Burnaby School Districts in due course. On March 3, I met with Mr. Frank Beinder of the B.C.A.C. and Diane Morrison of the Min- ‘istry of Education regarding planning a prov- incial in-service training program for mid- management personnel in community colleges. This meeting was on behalf of the Council of Principals. On the same day, the College played host to the Adult Special Education Conference, in- volving over 250 persons from around the province. This conference was organized by College personnel on behalf of the Ministry i of Education. Apparently it was an out- standing success. On March 4, the Deans and Directors of Con- tinuing Education met at the College to dis- cuss common problems in the field of Commun- ity Education throughout the province. I represented the Council of Principals at this meeting. On March 7, I met with Jo Mitchell of the Canada Employment and Immigration Commis- sion, to explore possibilities of vocation- al training on behalf of special groups. Ms. Mitchell has paid another visit to the College today, and met with members of the College administration and staff to further explore possibilities in this direction. On March 8, the Kwantlen College Board had an informal tour of the facilities. Mrs. Casher represented the Douglas College Board at this event. On March Planning College, progress plans of tions. INTERNAL MATTERS - EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT In late February, I discussed in some de- tail the College's current status and future prospects with Dr. Grant Fisher, Associate Deputy Minister, Post-Secondary, and Mr. Lorne Thompson, Executive Director of Pro- gram Services. The meeting was most helpful from my point of view and is likely to be repeated by future informal discussions over) the next few months. Work on the Five-Year (Strategic) Plan for the College is pro- ceeding at a satisfactory rate of speed. This work has included meetings every Tues- day afternoon by the Deans, Bursar and my-_ | self, together with Mr. Ed Redmond as staff | person; meetings with Dr. Fisher and Mr. | ee
