INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / MARCH 7, 1989 Athletic Update WOMEN’S BASKETBALL The Douglas College Women’s Basketball Team has occupied first place for the en- tire season, and after losing two games in a row to Fraser Valley and Cariboo College, were in danger of falling as far back as 3rd spot. However, the women put on a great show Saturday night, defeating Cariboo Col- lege, to give them sole possession of first place! Scores as follows: February 22: Douglas at Fraser Valley Half-time Score: 29 - 30 for FV Final Score: 66 - 69 for FV Jana Gibson 16 points, Andrea Jackson 15 points February 24: Douglas at Cariboo College Half-time score: 29-28 for Douglas Final Score: 57 - 71 for Cariboo Ethel Atte 17 points, Andrea Jack- son 12 points February 25: Cariboo College at Douglas Half-time Score: 32 - 27 for Douglas Final Score: 74 - 51 for Douglas Andrea Jackson 24 points, Claudia Zamprogno 16 points On Saturday, Douglas Col- lege Women’s Basketball Team faced the Women’s Team from 4 Cariboo College, in a game that would determine who would hold the first place position going into the BCCAA finals. The game was played at Douglas College and the home team was prepared for an in- tense rematch after losing to Cariboo the day before by 14 points. During the first 20 minutes, both teams played hard and remained relatively close. The score at half-time was Douglas 32, Cariboo 27. The game changed considerably in the second half, with the Douglas College women controlling the boards and outscoring Cariboo. Leading the scoring was Andrea Jackson with 24 points, fol- lowed by Claudia Zamprogno with 16, Ethel Atte with 11, and Janice Halls with 11. In the final quarter, Cariboo had no chance of catching Douglas, as the women pulled away to gain a significant lead. The Douglas College women dominated on offense and defense, shutting down all of Cariboo women’s efforts to nar- row the gap. The game ended with a victory for Douglas, with a final score of Douglas 74, Cariboo 51. MEN’S BASKETBALL The men defeated Cariboo College twice this past weekend, both at home and away. Stats as follows: February 24: Douglas at Cariboo college Half-time Score: 50 - 34 for Douglas Final Score: 87 - 68 for Douglas Glen Cote 18 points, Sean Beasley 16 points February 25: Cariboo College at Douglas Half-time Score: 41 - 41 Final Score: 100 - 74 for Douglas Tracey Holloman 23 points, Chris Schriek 19 points.
