AN ENVIRONMENTAL Ff CONCERN Recently, 71-year-old BC resident Lesslie Askin was deemed a terror threat. The reason for her being deemed a threat? Photographing Kinder Morgan storage tanks at Burnaby Mountain. She received some visitors shortly after her excursion to the mountain: “The chap who asked all the questions [said he] was an investigator with the national security division,” she told CBC News. Askin had been photographing the storage tanks to show the condition of them, as they were worn out and “over 60 years old ... to me, a picture is worth a thousand words,” as she states. In light of Askin’s being deemed a threat for reporting and documenting fact, we wanted to take a look at the significance of media in environmental concerns. The public will remain unaware of , environmental issues if reporters are not free, able, and indeed encouraged to document them. ! ES —). — CL POLICE
