The men’s basketball team made history with its first- ever National Championship following a 70-62 victory over the Mount St. Vincent University Mystics on March 16. Graeme McCallum took charge in the fourth quarter scoring 10 straight points for the Royals. For his efforts, McCallum was selected as the Tournament MVP. Billy McNutt was named Men’s Basketball Player of the Year. McNutt was also named BC Player of the Year at the provincials, with Bol Kong taking Rookie of the Year and Andrew Sturgeon First Team Provincial All-Star. Earlier Men’s basketball won their second consecutive Provincial Championship in Prince George, BC. Meanwhile in Sackville, NB, the badminton team won its third-consecutive National Championship on March 3. The Royals took the gold in Men’s Doubles (Chris Lee and Andy Cheong), Mixed Doubles (Alvin Lau and Third Celebration event and growing The Celebration of Teaching, Learning, Scholarly Activity and Program Development has grown significantly over the past two years and is expected to be even bigger this year. Staff and faculty work will be displayed completely filling the perimeter of both sides of the Upper Cafeteria. These displays will highlight the work that faculty and staff are doing with students in the classroom and in learning services. The celebration will recognize the academic leadership of faculty and staff involved in program development projects and showcase instructional activities, program development work and student projects too. Vv Cheryl Jeffs, Child Family and Community Studies, Continuing Education, participated in the launch of the BC Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) credentialing program. A reception was held at the Career Development Conference in Vancouver on March 5 and two graduates of the Douglas College Career Development Practitioner Program (CDP) were the first in British Columbia to be certified. CDP certification is granted by the BC Career Management Association and this designation is a welcome credential within the sector. v Congratulations to Laurel Donaldson in Commerce and Business Administration.
