Graduates Making a Difference Sought Do you know any Douglas College graduates who deserve special recognition? Then the Douglas College Alumni Associa- tion would like to hear from you! The Alumni Association plans to showcase the work of “graduates making a difference" at Open House ’90. We are inviting authors, artists, athletes, com- munity volunteers, entrepreneurs and many others to come to Douglas College to share their work and other accomplishments. It will be an exciting exhibit and a great opportunity for faculty, staff and former students to renew friendships. For further information or to suggest the names of graduates who should be invited to this event, please call Cathy Daminato at 527-5322. m douglas 7 gs collége alumni association Badminton team tours London, England he Douglas College Badminton team travelled to London, England to participate in two tournaments at the Badminton Association of England, Milton Keynes, June 7 — 21, 1990. Although the team lost the first tournament to the Royal Air Force by a heartbreaking 11-10 score, Douglas Colleges’ Sian Deng put ona brilliant show and finished with a 6-0 record. Peter Chen also had a good tournament finishing 4-1. The R.A.F. team seemed to have more depth than Douglas College who were weakened by an injury to our #2 Ladies’ Singles player Trish Schill. The second tournament was against the County of Buckingham- shire who finished 5th in the countrythis past season. To counter the obvious strength of Sian Deng, the County team boostered its ranks with several players from the England Youth Team. However, Sian was undaunted and proceeded to win the next 6 matches to finish the tournament 12-0. The England Youth Team countered by moving Sian into the Mens’ Singles draw but Sian once again emerged victorious by winning all matches. In spite of Sian’s winning record, Douglas College emerged from this tournament on the losing end of an 11-8 score. The team badly missed Trish Schill who was still sidelined with an ankle injury. Our team was congratulated on their discipline, attitude and sportsmanship. As well, they all arrived safely back home after separat- ing to tour Europe. Congratulations to the entire team and to coach Arif (Al) Mawani. Open House: Remember! The entire Badminton team will be available during Open House to help you with your badminton technique or to provide competition if you are feeling "mighty". ™ Group Advising Sessions Schedule All sessions start promptly at times advertised and are approximately 1 1/2 - 2 hours in length.
