Adamski OP Contributor New Westminster became the first commu- nity outside Vancouver to host the 2010 Olympic Countdown Clock, which was officially welcomed to the city in a ceremo- ny at the Royal City Centre, September 5. “We want everyone in New Westminster to catch the spirit 2010 has to offer,” said Jack McGee, chairman of the Spirit of 2010 New Westminster Committee, to a crowd of over two hundred people, many of whom posed for photos in front of the clock after the ceremony. Also in attendance were Olympic athletes Margaret Langford and New Westminster native and 12-time Paralympian champion Daniel Wesley. Both displayed their collec- tion of Olympic medals and signed auto- graphs. The Spirit of 2010 New Westminster Committee evolved from a former commit- tee established by MLA Joyce Murray in order to garner support for the bid in New Westminster. It is unclear where the clock, a donation from the Vancouver Airport Authority, will go after its two weeks in New Westminster, but McGee is hopeful that it will return to the Royal City again and again before the Olympics arrive. The International Olympic Committee was in Vancouver September 5 to discuss post-bid plans for the 2010 Olympics. Page 6 September 10, 2003 Fun with the OP JOW we, NKR NAS OUR Student Ne” Barbara K.
