oa, ww What do a ruler, an alarm clock and holidays have in common? Not much, but isn’t it strange how we use holidays to keep track of time and measure the year? And here we are - December already and the official countdown to stat days begins. Enjoy your time off this holiday season - we hope it brings you joy and content- ment. And should you find yourself longing for a bit of campus spirit, relax in front of the fire and cozy up to the latest about your DC colleagues. In a big way... We really did it this time. United Way donations were way up this year. College staffers donated about $6,200, compared to $1,800 last year. Perhaps the most en- vied prize awarded at Oktoberfest (in November) went to Steve Norris of Stu- dent Services, who drove away with a personalized parking pass on P1 (right next to the elevator). Buyer spends it all... Connie Frick, Purchasing Buyer in Facilities Services, won the last 60/40 payroll draw. Connie pocketed a cool $268.00 which she used to buy a “wonder- ful” new mattress. When asked what size the new cushion is, Connie chose to keep quiet. “That,” she says, “is classified”. Bob means business... Bob Cowin, Manager of Institutional Re- search is teaching a class this semester in the Business Department. Bob says teach- ing is interesting, but a lot of work on top of his other responsibilities. Move over Madonna... Colleen Nelson, CP&S Instructor and a Maple Ridge nurse, has knocked off a parody version of Madonna’s book called Chexxx. Nelson told the Province that her book is a “domestic version of Madonna’s perversion”. The satirical collection, which includes pictures of Nelson in her kitchen (fully clothed) and with her pets, is being considered by a publisher. Booker births baby boy... Congratulations to Technical Services Librarian Penny Swanson who gave birth to a son, Brett, on October 31. Thumbs up for team spirit... Community Programs staff and faculty have been playing games in a effort to foster team spirit. Recently, they had a baby picture naming contest - everyone who tried to match the pictures to their coworkers had a chance to win a $25 Woodward's gift certificate. Congratula- tions to winner Kathie Lundstrom of the Perinatal program. Creative spirits on the mend... Best wishes for speedy recoveries to Rosemary Popowitz and Marilyn Attwood who are away from the College on long term disability leave. Rosemary is a Graphic Artist in IMS and Marilyn is Graphic Designer for the PIO. The Kat came back... Katherine Albrechtsen, formerly of Institutional Research, jetted back from London after a five-month tour of Europe by motorcycle. Katherine liked the moto- trip so much she plans to get her own license here - keep your eye out for a wild woman popping wheelies in your neighborhood! 10 seconds of fame... Public Information Officer Brad Barber was recently interviewed by BCTY. A camera crew and reporter showed up early one morning at his house to shoot an expose on people who decide to move closer to their workplace. (Brad recently moved from East Van to Queen’s Park, about six blocks from the College.) We wonder if BCTV execs know he still drives to work. Of primary importance... Athletics Instructor Robin Ryan really wanted to go to his class reunion. He travelled all the way to Perth, Australia to see his primary (grades 1-6) classmates. He says he was delighted to hear of the success of his peers - two of them built the airport he landed in. Ryan says he en- joyed Perth for it’s gorgeous clean air, architecture, and parrots. P.S. You can buy a brand-new brick house there for $80,000. Deadline for INside... The deadline for submissions for the January 5 issue of INSIDE is December 11. The staff of the Public Information orice MD wishes you all a safe and happy holiday season. See you in 1993! A
