Here's a team- by-team look at what's happening; look for updates on badminton and other sports “early in the New Year. Women’s Soccer In what was a do-or-die game for both teams with the winner advancing to the BCCAA Championships, Langara edged the Douglas College Women’s Soccer team 1-0 on October 28. Despite the season’s disappointing end, Coach Sherri Kisser was pleased with the solid play of her team, in particular that of right fullback Lauren Wood and left fullback Andrea Kasuta. Kisser says that her team consistently played well and just needed a little more practice at putting the ball into the net. Men’s Soccer Ending their regular season play ina 1-1 tie with Fraser Valley means that the Douglas College Men’s Soccer team will enter the post-season in third place. Coach Mike Bernardis credits their success to a combination of sound team defense and strong individual efforts from players like sweeper Gareth Wilkshire and defender/ midfielder Chris Clemment. The team advanced to the BCCAA Championships with their first match scheduled for November 3rd at UBC’s Evelyn Lett field. Men’s Volleyball Practice paid off when the Douglas College Men’s Volleyball squad dispatched Trinity Western University in five games at their season opener on October 27 and followed it up with a three-game rout of the Cariboo Sun Demons on the 28. Coach Brian Newman feels that his team’s stiffest competition will come from the Malaspina squad, but believes that the combination of a veteran team and home court advantage for the provincial championships will give the Douglas College team a good chance of improving on last year’s third place finish.
