APPROVED BY COLLEGE BOARD April 9, 1986 APRIL 17, 1986 FUNDRAISING POLICY OF DOUGLAS COLLEGE RATIONALE A growing need for increased financial support for Douglas College activities has led the College to establish the Douglas College Foundation. The Foundation will take an active role in support of fundraising efforts of constituency organizations, College departments, and College personnel actively engaged in fundraising activities. In addition, the Foundation will provide fund management services for funds so raised for the College. POLICY STATEMENT The Douglas College Foundation shall be the fundraising agent of Douglas College. The Foundation is responsible for approving, coordinating and acknowledging all solicitations made on behalf of Douglas College for private support. RELEVANT COLLEGE PHILOSOPHY/GOALS STATEMENT To provide, through its curriculum and facilities, opportunities for the College to be a major community centre for academic, occupational, athletic, cultural and social activities. NATURE OF SOLICITATION PROGRAMS The Foundation will undertake activities designed to raise funds for Douglas College. Students, College personnel, alumni and friends of Douglas College will have an opportunity to make a contribution to the institution on a yearly basis. The Foundation will establish a number of giving programs to encourage these contributions and will publish an Annual Report each spring to recognize donors according to their wishes. All donations are eligible for a tax deductible receipt. REGULATIONS FOR APPLICATION Applications from College departments will be reviewed by the Foundation Directors in the fall and spring of each year. Guidelines for submitting funding requests will be developed by the Foundation and publicized to the College community. The Foundation will be responsible for acknowledging all donations from the private sector made to Douglas College. The Foundation will encourage cooperative relationships in support of fundraising efforts by groups associated with the College. OBJECTIVES The Foundation has the responsibility of soliciting, receiving and recording gifts made to Douglas College from business and industry, foundations, and other private sectors. Bequests and gifts of property are also handled by the Foundation. The Foundation Board of Directors manages the assets of the Foundation, makes short and long-term investments and allocates funds to the College as they become available. The Foundation office maintains records of giving, files reports and submits legal documents to auditors.
