Mad Hatter Page 2 Great Hockey!!! The coach of the Douglas College Hockey Royals makes no bones about it, the two best hockey players of this century will be playing with his team on October 15. NiL legends Bobby Hull and Gordie Howe will be lacing up at Queens Park Arena to help the Royals take on the Vancouver Canuck Oldtimers in a benefit game for the hockey program at Douglas College. "What can I say?" asks coach Merv Bodnarchuk. "It's not every day that someone gets to coach the two best hockey players in the whole world." "I'm really excited about this." And the game will be a real show- case of top-notch hockey players. | making any cuts, shine the most in this exhibition game will include Bobby Angus on the wing and at centre, Alan Lucier and Andy Alexious on defense, the line of Rob Greeves, Scott Perrich and Don Johannson, and starting goalie Paul Flamont. Over sixty guys tried out for the Royals this September, but without coach Bodnarchuk worked them down to a strong team of 25 players. "T worked them pretty hard those first few days," he admits. "A lot of guys thought we were playing intramurals so I didn't have to make any cuts." The Royals started out the season without any money, so this game is the first of several fund raisers Bodnarchuk hopes to get involved in. "The team will make it to the provin- cial finals later this season," predicts a rightfully confident Bodnarchuk. In his past 14 years as a junior team coach, all his teams have played in their leagues' finals. "This game with Bobby and Gordie Besides the appearance of both Bobby Hull and Gordie Howe, the Oldtimers team should have local Favourites Orland Kurtenbach, Chris Oddleifson, Rick Blight and Gary Bromley on their side. Meanwhile, coach Merv has been going all out to recruit the best young players in B.C. for the Douglas College Royals. Featuring players from pretty well every community in the Lower Mainland, the Royals will be a tough team to beat when they take on the other college teams later this year.
