SPs B.C. L io By Josh Martin, Sports Editor es, in what seems to be... y another quarterback for the B.C. Lions. Travis Lulay is now the 55th starting guy in franchise history. With Casey Printers out with a swollen knee, Lulay gets the call over Jarious Jackson for the number one position. His impressive college career tells the tale for the young 26 year old athlete. Lulay left Montana State with a school record for passing yards (10,724) after his four year career which ran from 2002-2005. He led his team in rushing during his senior year with 611 yards and finished his time there with 1,459 yards on the ground. Lulay’s 23 touchdowns were fourth all-time in that program’s history and was also the highest total for the quarterback position. Travis went on a bit of a rollercoaster ride in the hopes of cracking the Seattle Seahawks line- up after leaving Montana. He was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2006 but then released during final cuts that September. That January the Seahawks re-signed Lulay and assigned him to the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe where he started eight games. After being waved in April of 2008, Lulay signed as a free agent with the New Orleans Saints and soon after that rejoined the Seahawks in late October 2008, but was again released at the end of the season. After numerous attempts 18 ns give Travis Lulay the Nod to crack the NFL, Lulay went on to attend the Lions’ free agent camp in Portland in the spring of 2009. With an impressive outing, he was soon after signed to a contract and made the Lions roster coming out of training camp. The Lions are currently third in the western division (1-3) with two points, while the Calgary Stampeders are in first and the Saskatchewan Roughriders in second. Even with the shaky start to the season, there are 15 games left and a lot of time to improve in all areas. Now, with Printers injured, it is Lulay’s chance to shine and prove how good he can be. Lulay will hopefully help the Lions crawl back up the standings and out of the hole they’ve dug for themselves. So far this season, in two games, Lulay has 527 yards, one TD, and two INTS, with a 63.6% completion rate. He looks to improve upon those numbers with more games to come. In his last outing against the Toronto Argonauts (a 24-20 loss for the Leos) he was without a doubt one of the best players on the Lions’ side. He made some exceptional plays and a few mistakes, which is expected coming from yet another quarterback for the B.C. Lions. If Lulay is given the chance to show his skill, he will be giving Casey Printers (when he gets back from his injury) a run for his money for the starting quarterback position. The Miami Heat are smokin’ hot By Josh Martin, Sports Editor here’s electricity in the air down in Miami. Dwayne Wade told Lebron James and Chris Bosh how beautiful the beaches are down south, and now they’re heading down to the sunshine state armed with new contracts. The Miami Heat are stacked after acquiring superstars James and Bosh from Cleveland and Toronto via free agency while re-signing Wade. All three players took pay cuts to frolic and play with each other in hopes of grabbing an NBA championship ring in the process. James and Bosh signed twin $14,500,000 deals while Wade signed a $14,000,000 deal. James, otherwise known as the “king” is a two time NBA MVP whom has appeared in 578 regular season games averaging 27.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. He is Cleveland’s franchise leader in points with 15,251 and has been named an NBA All-Star six times. James has yet to win an NBA championship which is a main reason why he has switched teams. His chances will be a lot stronger with new teammates Bosh and Wade at his side. On the other hand, this move to the Heat has infuriated Cavalier fans and some have even set fire to his number 23 replica jerseys, feeling betrayed by the “king”. It will be interesting to see how the fans will react to James when he comes back to visit his hometown and whether or not James will perform his famous pre-game ritual (where he throws chalk in the air) at his new home, in Miami. Wade, a six time NBA All-Star, has played in 471 regular season games in his seven year career averaging 25.4 points and 4.9 rebounds a game. He is the Heat’s all time leader in points with 11,967. Wade captured the NBA championship with the Heat back in the 05-06 season against the Dallas Mavericks and was named playoff MVP. This year, re-signing with Miami, he wants to do it again in style with the new deadly trio. Bosh has appeared in 509 regular season games averaging 20.2 points and 9.4 rebounds in his seven years for the Toronto Raptor organization. He is the only player to ever surpass the 10,000 point mark in Raptor franchise history and stands tall as the all-time leader in points with 10,275. Bosh has never seen the championship as well and moving to Miami is his best chance in doing so. If all three players can avoid injuries throughout the year then the Heat will create anticipation for a championship, and plenty of heat for themselves back in Ohio and Ontario.
