DOUGLAS COLLEGE LIGRARY ARCHIVES THE INSTRUCTORS' DIPLOMA PROGRAM COURSE OFFERINGS SUMMER SESSION 1975 The Instructors' Diploma Program has been designed for full-time instructors in vocational schools and other post-secondary institutions and for instructors in certain approved specialties within secondary schools. It is not planned for instructors who can obtain certification through regular teacher training programs. Inquiries about specific courses should be directed to the Centre for Continu- ing Education, Education Extension, University of British Cokumbia, phone 228-2181, Local 220. The curriculum includes the following four courses: 1.D. 101: The Public Education System A 30-hour course to provide the new instructor with a basic knowledge of the public education system and an understanding of his professional responsibil- ities within that system. Content: aims, structure, organization, administra- tion, legislation of the public education system; types and roles of provin- cial education institutions; roles cf related government agencics; finance; services for students; professional ethics and responsibilities. I.D. 167 will not be offered during this summer session, but it should be available soon as an on-site course in institutions throughout the province. 1.0. 102: ELements of Instruction A two-part course consisting of 60 hours of study and a written Winter Assign- ment specific to each candidate's subject area. Content: learning theories, situations for the promotion of learning, factors affecting learnina, methods of instruction, curriculum aims and objectives, lesson and course planning and organization. I.D. 102 is also being developed as an on-site or independent study course. ’ 1.0. 103: The Technology of Instruction A two-part course consisting of 60 hours of study and a written Winter Assign- ment specific to each candidate's subject area. Content: Basic learning aids, audio-visual aids and contemporary media, specialty educational equipment, learning labs, simulation operations, preparation of instructional materials, systems approach to individual progress. Prerequisite: 1.0. 102.
