After 23 years at the College, Waack retires this summer, but not before one last musical May 15 and 16. Although she left the Douglas College theatre program last year, acclaimed direc- tor Dorothy Jones has spent the last few months contacting 50 theatre grads and organizing a very special show. All the work is a labor of love, though. The show entitled Try To Remember - A Musical Memoir is dedicated to her long- time colleague Henry Waack, the last original faculty member of the college’s Music Department, and who is retiring this summer. With Jones directing and Waack managing the music and often pro- viding piano accompaniment, the pair had worked on more than a dozen musi- cals and plays together since they first teamed up for Anne of Green Gables in 1974. "When I found out that there wasn’t go- ing to be a musical at the college this spring I felt sorry for Henry because I knew he would like to work on one in his last year," says Jones. Gordon moves to Human Resources & College Development Mia Gordon has accepted the position of Dean of Human Resources and College Development effective May 1. The move comes as a result of Gerry Della Mattia’s one-year secondment as DBD: director of the Advanced Piucation Council of B.C. "I'm excited to be able to work with the people in this division," says Gordon. "There are really good people doing inno- vative things, and I’m happy to be a part of that. I have a real interest in human resource development, program develop- ment, and in strategic planning. These areas are very important in the current post-secondary climate. They are central to where the College is going." Mia continued on page 4 Now he’s getting to do just that. Try To Remember will feature musical highlights from each of the shows Jones and Waack worked on, a list that includes Guys and Dolls, Kiss Me Kate, Working, and Fiddler on the Roof. The performances will fea- ture at least one original cast member from each production. "It’s going to be just like a reunion," says Waack. "The people say they are really excited that we're getting together again." The group includes some out-of-town alumni: Derek Metz, who attends the National Theatre School in Montreal, Victoria’s Susan Hubbard and Lawrence Kamikawaji of Sidney, B.C. It’s taken some detective work to find the former theatre students, says Jones.
