——— a Volume XiIlIf; Number 9 DCSS Locked in Closet by Marion Drakos President of the Douglas Col- lege Student Society, Aias Perez, says the lack of adequate student society office space in the new Thomas Haney site is creating a "“geograghical barrier" for Maple Ridge students who want to be in- volved in student government. "I see the student society not as a luxury but a necessity," Perez said. "This is a sympton of the lack of legitmate representation in the college system." According to Maple Ridge Member at Large, Angus Adaire, the size of the society office in the 25 million dollar complex is "the same size as some of the wash- rooms." Perez says he understands the financial limitations of the complex and realises that the college must prioritize but that the college has it’s priorties "all wrong." "Why is it that the largest group on campus has the least amount of power - from voting on the college board to having a say in how much space they have in a building." Matthew Martin, the Other Press Board member, was disap- pointed at the lack of space allo- Freeze the Fees Campaign Gears by Matthew Martin The Provincial Executive of the Canadian Federation of Stu- dents met last week to try and ex- pand the "Freeze the Fees" campaign into the smaller colleges in BC said Christina Steinmann, the Vice-President, Internal of the DCSS. "So far the campaign has been university centred" said Stein- mann. The beefed up campaign will involve bigger rallies and big- ger events on a few of the college campuses. "Douglas College is good because we are so centred” said Steinmann adding that most of the representative committee are involved in some way. The Douglas College Faculty Association has also given their formal support to the "Freeze the Fees" campaign in a letter ad- dressed to the DCSS. Activities so far have included the stamping of cheques at registra- tion for tuition and the stamping of registration forms with "Freeze the “COMING UP!
