Full meeting minutes are posted monthly outside the Library, and Council Chair Roberta Bend can be reached for more information at local 5384. Chair Roberta Bend reported that she attended conferences of the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) and the Advanced Education Council of B.C. (AECBC). Those interested in the range of information gathered at these meetings may contact her directly. For anyone interested, the submission deadline for papers to the 1997 ACCC Annual Conference 1s September 27, 1996. Vice Chair Bill Main congratulated Roberta Bend on being elected Provincial Chair of Educational Council Chairs. As Bill Main will start educational leave in September, Sandra Hochstein was nominated and elected by acclamation to fill the Vice Chair position. Mia Stainsby from Language, Literature and Performing Arts will replace Bill on the Council. After some discussion, a motion to approve in principle the Police Science Studies Program was carried. The Diploma Program in Tourism and Hotel Management, scheduled to begin in September 1996, was also approved. Trish Angus reported that Douglas College will officially recognize associate degrees on students’ transcripts Yvonne Mostert was successful in persuading well-known “Man-in- Motion”, advocate for people with disabilities and motivational speaker Rick Hansen to make the graduation address at this spring’s June 13 ceremonies. Hansen also took the time to visit Athletics Instructor Tim Frick, a key player in Hansen's wheelchair basketball and world-tour career. The Faculty of Health Sciences invites friends, students and colleagues of Jan Farrell of the General Nursing and diplomas as of January 1997. Several questions arose from discussion of the B.C. Open University Concept Paper; further discussion was deferred until the September Education Council meeting.
