A conflict of interest occurs when it is perceived by the College that information or influence attached to one role could be used for the benefit of the employee in his/her role. POLICY At Douglas College, any conflict of interest will be resolved in favour of the College. GUIDELINES Ls Any employee of Douglas College (faculty or staff) may only have one relationship with the College, which is that of employer/employee. Employees may not do business (i.e. establish another relationship) with the College directly or indirectly through companies in which they or their immediate families have a significant interest (10% or greater) except by response to a public tender. This does not prevent employees from enrolling in College courses. Since administrators have the power to create or influence employment opportunities within the College, they may not occupy vacancies they have created. This includes teaching credit or non-credit overloads for compensation unless already teaching a minimum of three credits. 3. When an employee chooses to engage in educational activities or ventures . which parallel the College's, it is his + or her responsibility, not the College's, to make explicitly clear that his or her activities do not in any way imply an endorsement by Douglas College. Use of College facilities or resources for such activities must be charged to the employee and must be approved by the Division Director and the Director of C.E. Programmes. 4.
