Pinetree Way update - the Socio-Technical Systems team Senior College administration have brought together a group of faculty, staff and administrators to develop a plan for learning technologies at the Pinetree Way campus. The team was created based on an approach to decision-making called the Socio-Technical Systems (STS) model, which is being adopted by many organizations. The model brings together people who work directly on the front lines of an organization’s operation in order to design an effective system. Hence, the group is called the STS team. It is working parallel with other planning initiatives for the Pinetree Way campus. The team’s mission statement and objectives, and a list of team members are included below. Please contact any member if you have questions, input or concerns. Statement of Purpose This document is intended to explain the work of the STS Team to members of the College community. Since the mandate, goals and methodology are subject to continuous revision, this should be considered as a mid-February snap shot of the group’s activities. Mission To develop a Learning Technology Plan for the Pinetree Way Campus which enhances and diversifies the operations of the College by utilizing technology that facilitates access and learning. Objectives of the Learning Technology Plan The Learning Technology Plan: 1. Will emphasize the use of technology which directly affects students and therefore gives priority to the instructional uses of technology. 2. Will include uses of technology in non- instructional areas which will contribute to access and support learning. 3. Will include short term and long term goals. The short term goals will involve the technology which should be in place for the opening of Pinetree Way, and the long term will include the first three years of operation. 4. Will include recommendations for a rational process of planning for, acquiring, and installing technology. 5. Will include curriculum development support (time and money) associated with planned uses of technology. 6. Will include upgrade and replacement costs. 7. Will include recommendations for training and professional development. 8. Will include recommendations for monitoring and evaluating the use of technology and recommending enhancements and/or changes. 9. Will be completed by April 26, 1996. Process In devising its plan, the STS Team will recognize the work of those groups in the College who are currently using technology, and seek their advice on future trends in their areas. The team will also rely on the work done by other committees within the College, and in other colleges and institutions, in making its recommendations. The STS Team does not intend to impose technology, but to identify uses that will have a real impact on access, teaching and learning.
