INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / June 11, 1991 Registrar’s Office Cashier Michelle Orton AS studying money matters at Douglas College as an account- ing student in 1985, Michelle Orton is back dealing with money as a new cashier in the Registrar’s Office. Orton worked in retail sales for six years before joining the Col- lege and enjoys the professional atmosphere on campus. Her new duties include collecting fees, deal- ing with refunds, issuing tax forms to students and making sure the cash balances at the end of the day. She also sees funds in her future. “I see my present job as an entry-level position in which I can learn more. Eventually I would like to work in an accounting position here,” said Orton, 25. Keeping a large sign by her desk reminding people to “smile”, Orton also doesn’t mind helping students who stop by her work locations to ask for directions. Still, with all that money around, she welcomes the new wickets which allow her to concentrate on cash concerns. When not number crunching or giving directions, the New Westminster resident likes to spend time with friends, dance and go to movies.
