productivity and effectiveness, methods to bridge existing programs. For example, to allow a technician to move to an ad- vanced stage of technology, to give a technology grad a new dimension -- such as computer assisted design and/or manu- facturing. | would look to see new programs that could serve industries that don't even exist in our province today. | anticipate some of the projects would involve other provincial ministries and will dovetail with Canada Employment and Immigration initiatives. | also want to see proposals that entail the involvement of local, municipal governments and the province's small business sector and entrepreneurs. In summary, the government has great faith in the College and Institute system and has put forward some development funds which will enable the institutions to enhance their role and, indeed, to broaden Their role, particularly with respect to the economic development of the Province. The challenge has been given today and | am confident that the college system will meet that challenge in creative ways. Mad Hatter Page 8 between 1100 - 1900 hours.
