The specific goals of the workshop are that participants will:

e become familiar with the basic assumption and theoretical concepts of mastery
learning, understand the distinctions between a traditional and a mastery learning
approach to instruction, and be aware of the implications for student learning.

e become familiar with the essential elements in systematic approaches to instruction
and know how to use a systems model for instructional problem-solving.

e learn how to specify cognitive learning objectives. ae

@ be made aware of some of the uses and misuses of instructional objectives and
have an opportunity to explore some of the problems and issues involved in their
use,

@ become familiar with the concepts of criterion reference testing, diagnostic,
formative and summative evaluation, and their use in instructional design.

e develop a unit of instruction incorporating the concepts presented in the workshop.
e become aware of possible subsequent steps in instructional design.
