th oO 4 Douglas College Newsletter. A STUDENT SOCIETY GRANTS 915,000 TO FOUNDATION Douglas College students made a major contribution to the College and future students recently when Keith Wilson, Student Society representative, presented the Douglas College Foundation Chairman _ Bill Day with a $15,000 cheque at the May 23 graduation ceremonies. The Student Society grant will form a permanent endowment fund and the interest is designated to be used for student financial assistance to be distributed by the Foundation Board of Directors. "We hope students who would not normally be able to attend Douglas College because of financial restraints will be given the opportunity to pursue their goals with these funds," said Wilson. "We also want to help existing students who have on-going financial difficulties." The Douglas College Foundation, formed in February of this year, raises and distributes funds for student scholarships, bursaries and for extra events, equipment and activities which compliment existing educational programs at the College. Donations to the Foundation can either be designated by the donor for a specific use such as the support of the visual and performing arts, sports equipment, library books, scholarships for a particular program, or the funds can be directed to the areas where resources are most needed by the Board of Directors, Speaking on behalf of the newly elected Student Society executive, Wilson said he hoped this grant would encourage others to support this worthwhile cause. "The Foundation provides a good opportunity for individuals and groups to support the programs and students at the College, and for the community to become more aware of what the College is about," said Wilson.
