INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / June 25, 1991 The INSIDE Loses Out The INSIDE newsletter is not entertaining the Douglas College troops. And no wonder: for romance, intrigue and danger, our stories just cannot compare with the headlines found on reading material in the fourth floor coffee room. Here’s a sample of what we are up against: e John Lennon is Alive! He is Brain Damaged and Living in an Italian Monastery - (Sun) e What Nancy and Sinatra Really Did in the White House - (Star) e Couple Want to Adopt Their Corvette - (Sun) e Pregnant Man Gives Birth - Baby Lives! It was His Twin Brother - (Sun) e Space Aliens Stole Our Baby! - (Weekly World News) ¢ Soap Stars Porn Secrets Exposed - (National Enquirer) ¢ Barbara Walters has Facelift, loses 201bs. and Wins Back Husband - (Star) e Charles Manson Promises Saddam: I Will Help You Destroy America - (National Enquirer) We can’t provide this kind of coverage, but check out The Inside Zone by Carillon. The Inside Zone by Carillon Was folks, here it is, the reporting that the majority of people at Douglas College wanted. Gossip! At least that is what the people said in the two readership surveys completed earlier this spring. So what’s new and exciting in the lives of the employees at Douglas College? First the good news; personnel manager Rob Corbett is on holiday until July 8th and that has Wendy in Personnel telling us that "We can all party until then." Well, Wendy may be able to party, but for the majority of staff, it could mean typing tests will have to wait until Rob returns from England. Speaking of Europe, Bruce Livingstone returned from a short visit to the continent with just the clothes on his back after being squeezed in Valencia, Spain. Seems some people in the orange capital of the world thought more of Bruce’s wardrobe than those of his colleagues in the PIO. And while we’re on the subject of stealing, those people at Van- couver Community College have managed to steal institutional researcher Katherine Albrechtson from us ...at least until September. Katherine does hope to return to Douglas College, right after research finds out where those missing FTE’s have gone. Talking about missing links, anyone who has ventured into that waste land on the fourth floor called the Deanery will see a major shake-up in office realignment. Long debates have taken place over who would get what office, with Dean John McKendry com- ing out on top with the office with the most carpet squares. Bursar Peter Greenwood’s only comment: "I haven't counted my carpet squares yet." I understand his calculator is down in comput- ing being fixed. The big winner in the office sweeps, of course, is Dean Gerry Della Mattia, who finally gets his own office in the Deanery. Did I say Gerry was the big winner? Actually, according to Registrar Trish Angus, with Gerry moving out of her area, she is the big winner. They left their hearts in San Francisco. Assistant comptroller Anne McLean and institutional researcher Mark Walsh recently returned from an Association of Institutional Research conference. Talk about luck during these times of economic restraint...they had to stay at the St Frances, Westin Hotel. Both reported they learned a great deal, although they are not making any promises about being able to find those missing FTE's. And in other news, Anne McLean will be having a baby in late September...Stagecraft Instruc- tor Drew Young and his wife Laurel will have their second child in November. Good luck to all. Janet Knowles, formerly of CBC, has just been hired as a new programmer in Community Programs & Services, while business programmer Jennifer Edwards announced she will be leaving Douglas College. Anyone who has had the pleasure of work- ing with Jennifer will miss her. While we are on the topic of working with people, Ted James, the new acting Director of Student Services, is a welcome addition to the mid managers. And lest we forget, some people have their fingers crossed, hoping and wishing that a certain long time employee is hired for the new excluded secretary position in the Deanery. ae es
