Choir to open new series in New Westminster

In 1986 Vancouver celebrated its 100th birthday, British Columbia
"Welcomed the World" and on Saturday, November 8 at 8:00 p.m. in
Queens Avenue United Church, New Westminster will hail the opening of
the Vancouver Chamber Choir's first NEW WESTMINSTER SERIES.

In 1961 the Vancouver Chamber Choir started a small and inauspicious
series in Vancouver. Now, this highly-acclaimed ensemble has a
6-concert series in Vancouver, is broadcast regularly on CBC Radio,
tours nationally and internationally and on November 8 the VCC begins
its new concert series in New Westminster. -

On hearing the fine acoustic and the splendid organ at Queens Avenue
United Church, Conductor Jon Washburn envisioned a choral series for
the residents of New Westminster. The new three-concert
Saturday-night series is the fruit of that idea.

IN CONCERT is the New Westminster series-opener on Saturday, November
8. It will feature Norman Luboff's dramatic African Mass for choir
and percussion, recently performed by thr VCC at the Xerox
International Amphitheatre. Also on this programme is a delightful
suleetion of Renaissance Madrigals and music by Leonard Bernstein and
Vaughan Williams.

 

A CHRISTMAS GARLAND on Saturday, December 13 will be a celebration of
the Christmas season. The Chamber Choir is joined by the Amadeus
Children's Choir, Rita Costanzi, harp and Bryn Nixon, organ. The
programme includes a selection of Yule-tide favourites and an
audience sing-along.

On Valentine's Day, February 14, SOUNDSCAPES brings to a close the
Vancouver Chamber Choir's NEW WESTMINSTER SERIES. Conductor Jon
Washburn and the Vancouver Chamber Choir will be at peak performance
pitch as this is the launch of their three-week Tour of Eastern
Canada. ‘

The season opener for the Vancouver Chamber Choir's 1986/87 New
westminster Series is IN CONCERT on Saturday, November 8 at 8:00 p.m.
in Queens Avenue United Church (the corner of Sixth St. & Queens
Avenue).
