DOUGLAS ATHLFTES SWEEP THE BOAR‘.

In contests held in various parts of the province over the weekend,
Nouzlas College athletes took all opposition to the cleaners emerging victorious in
soccer, rugby and golf.

SOCCER :

In Ianglev on Friday, Douglas swamped Trinity Western College 7 25

The Douglas team started off on a somewhat shaky note not having
played together as a team hefore, and midway through the first half were trailing
7 — 1. Towards the end of the second half, towever, they started co-ordinating their
efforts and levelled the score at 2 all hy the half.

The senond half was very much a one-sided affair as Douglas launched
attack after attack on the Trinity goal. Some fine goaltending by the Trinity goalie
prevented the the match from developing into a com plete riot. “oal scores for
Douglas were Dan Schofield with 3, and Lloyd Kennedy, Jim Coplin, John Savoei and
Cary Thurmath with 1 each.

On Friday Douglas takes on the usually potent Vancouver City College
team.

RUGBY :

The Douglas College rugby team made short work of Malapina College in
Nanaimo on Sunday defeating them bv a score of 23 - 0.

Tt was obvious from the opening kick-off that “Malaspina would be no
threat. ouglas playing into the teeth of a stiff hrzeze led by a score of 10 - 0
at the half - the result of a penalty goal and conversion by skipper Dave Jagge, and
a touchdown by Bobby Gwen.

The second half followed the pattern of the first half with Douglas
camping in their opponents half of the field. Touchdowns were scored for Douglas by
Rod “Aller, George Boon and John Zurecki, with Dave Jagges adding another conversion.

On Thursday afternoon at 5:99 p.m. Douglas takes on B.C.I.T. at B.C.I.T.
GOLF:

 

The Douglas College golf team scored somewhat of an upset in Kamloops
over the weekend bv emerging victorious in the first of the 3 tournaments which will
be used to determine the Totem Conference Champion this year. The Douglas team of
Fred Kato, Gordon Mink, Lee Swope and Bob Hobbs finished with an aggregate of AT).
