The grey skie: Paactbare eres! nothing to boost the mood of Vancouvérites: at‘least snow would give us something to complain about, but right now the streets feel empty and everything lacks the energy required to pull you through the day. The sparkle of Christmas is gone and the warmth of spring is still too far away to look forward to, even the thought of millions of Olympic athletes strolling the streets of Vancouver doesn’t seem to inspire much enthusiasm. To get through the rest of these dreary skied days, instead of walking around campus like a bunch of zombies, and to achieve the vigor everyone has in the summer before the weather and school kill our energy buzz, here’s a few helpful tips on how to stay seed and fresh throughout the school day: * Proper posture: I realize I sound like your grandmother right now, but seriously, after sitting é 3s. people say that ” theme lasted in class slumped down in the seat, how can you not expect to feel lifeless and drab? Sitting up straight, carrying yourself with confidence, and making eye contact is a self-esteem booster and may introduce you to some interesting people or details you didn’t already notice. Who knew that girl in your philosophy class was so cute? Is that a Celebrities’ stamp on your teachers wrist or a tattoo? And, here I go sounding like a grandmother again, activating the muscles used when you’re sitting and standing properly burns more calories than when you’re hunchbacked. Think of it this way: more burned calories equals more drinks during happy hour. Cut caffeine: No more Tim Horton’s or grandé half sweet extra hot lattes from Starbucks; switch to herbal tea instead. Coffee may be a routine way to start the day, and a great pick-me-up between classes, and the one thing that helps you stay up till three am writing the paper you put off, but you would be better off without it. Caffeine provides an energy boost that lasts between one and six hours depending on what you drank. With all of the sweeteners and milk we put in our coffee our glucose levels skyrocket; giving that nice energy buzz for a while before coming crashing back down, making you want and need more caffeine. Caffeine acts on the central nervous system and affects the way the body thinks and sleeps, so cutting caffeine is really hard for the first four days. After the first four days though, your body will no longer crave caffeine and will be able to feel energized and awake all on its own again. Sweat: The best way to boost your energy and feel good is to break a sweat; whether you workout for an hour or sprint for ten minutes. When you exercise you release endorphins (which are a hormone produced in the brain) that act as the body’s natural painkillers. Once these endorphins are released feelings of euphoria and happiness fill the body; immediately boosting your mood. Skip the coffee, skip the drinks; go for a quick jog around your block or pop into the gym between classes to put yourself in a better mood during the day. Start the day off with protein: The majority of people I talk to say that they eat cereal for breakfast, and I’m sure, are falling asleep in class an hour later and ravenous by the time lunch hour rolls around. Eating cereal for breakfast in my opinion, is the same as skipping breakfast altogether because it is digested so quickly. Better concentration and productivity are proven to be beneficial factors of eating breakfast, which will better your mood and energy levels throughout the day, and you won’t be frantically pushing your way through the café come lunchtime. Scrambled eggs with cheese, peanut butter on toast, and yogurt with fruits and nuts are all great options and take roughly 10-15 minutes to prepare. Sleep in: Skip a class, call in sick to work, or ignore all your phone calls; do whatever it takes to get some extra shut-eye. I’m not saying do this every single day, but falling behind in sleep makes it extremely difficult to be cheerful and energized all day long, and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in having a job that makes it impossible to get to bed earlier. If you feel like you’re constantly exhausted and there is no way for you to catch up, then take a couple of hours off one morning and pull a Rip Van Winkle. Escaping for an extra three hours is better than hooking up an IV drip full of caffeine and walking around like a zombie. Lululemon lacking sportsmanship while other Canadian companies add class to the Olympics By Stephanie Trembath, Fashion Editor — Olympic teams and the staging of the Olympics here in British Colombia. An extremely excited sponsor is Aritzia, an upscale Vancouver-based company whose stores have expanded into the U.S., In exchange for the off-the-shoulder sweaters in pale greens, charcoals, and blues, and scooped necked t-shirts are also decorated in Olympic logos. Paired with a tights and boots the Park more important than money” certainly did a poor Life apparel is a cute and classy way for girls to show po PP’ T= company known for advocating “Friends are job of standing behind their words when the Olympics were set to be hosted in British Colombia this year. Lululemon Athletica, which was founded right here in Vancouver, launched a brand new clothing line called “Cool Sporting Event That Takes Place in BC, 2009-2011 Edition” after refusing to be an official sponsor to the 2010 Olympic Games. Toques, sweatshirts, and t-shirts in bold reds, blues, and yellows representing the Canada, the U.S., and other visiting countries during the Games _ can be found in the Lululemon stores throughout Canada. Being a Canadian Company, Lulu is disregarding their fellow “friends” right to produce merchandise bearing Olympic logos the company pays royalties to the Olympic organizers. Aritzia’s business philosophy maintains that they are a “cultural company” and “inspired by the energy of culture and connecting everything together in one place” which ties in perfectly with the bid to acquire an official support for the 2010 Games coming in February. The Hudson Bay Company is another proud sponsor and clothing supplier to the 2010 Olympic. Parkas, knitted sweaters, toques, scarves, and mittens are part of the fashion line that was developed for all ages. HBC’s aim was to create a clothing line that could be worn after the Olympics ended, so much of the apparel does not feature the typical Olympian logos. The designers were told to combine four key elements when creating the clothing; Canadian colors in traditional red, white, grey, and black, Canadian graphics, Hudson Bay Branding with the characteristic crest and strips of HBC, and Canadian wordmark. The wordmark features the letter “A” on outerwear to represent the vast mountain ranges of B.C. The clothing line from HBC is a little more conservative and bland compared to the apparel Lululemon and Aritzia, and features outerwear that we wouldn’t necessarily wear here in B.C. seeing as it never of B.C. as the clothing line does not support the Games or success of Olympian teams; rather, its profit goes directly into the pocket of Lululemon Athletica. Unlike Lululemon, other Canadian companies have supported the Olympic Games with merchandise whose profits go directly to the success of the Canadian license to produce Olympic branded wear for the 2010 Games. Park Life is the clothing line created by Aritzia which sports long zip-up hoodies in an assortment of colours bearing “VANCOUVER 2010” across the chest and down the arm. Aritzia’s signature slouchy snows. While the sweaters and shirts at Aritzia are only for females, Lululemon presents attire that is suitable for men and’ women in bold colors.
