LOOK, LISTEN AND ENJOY You can hear singer/songwriter Shari Ulrich perform, listen to Ellen Silverman on the piano or take a look at the art of Mike Mancuso in some of the events at Douglas College this fall. the second annual Fundraising Gala for the WomenSpeak Institute. The gala, which celebrates Women’s History Month, will be held on October 21 at 8pm at the Performing Arts Theatre. In addition to Ulrich, the evening U Irich will top the list of performers at features an international and eclectic blend of singers, dancers and musicians. Taking the stage will be gospel singer Pearl Brown and pianist Rebecca Fasihi. Other performers include Qui Xia He (pita player), Lily Spence (poet), Inclognito (country cloggers), Iris Cunningham and Group (Irish- SSS R@qL{E Gaelic musicians and singers) and the Blue Grass Princesses. Opening the season at the Amelia Douglas Gallery will be Urban Primitives by Michael Mancuso, which runs until Sept. 30. Using vivid colors in his paintings, Mancuso offers a surreal voyage through urban and natural West Coast scenes. Meet the artist at the opening reception, 3:45-6:30pm on September 9 in the gallery. The free Noon at New West Concert Series is on Thursdays at 12:30 pm. Pianist Barrie Barrington is featured September 22. Eric Wilson (cello) and Ellen Silverman perform on September 29.
