CAFCE Annual Conference, August 19-22

busy place this summer as Co-
op partners from across the
country gather for the 18th Annual
CAFCE Conference.

The Canadian Association for
Co-operative Education has
planned a varied and dynamic pro-
gram around the conference theme
“Partners in Change”. Session
topics will include employment
equity, ethics in Co-op, and job
ranking /matching procedures. A
special session on creative prob-
lem solving techniques will be
given by Pat Pitsel, an innovative
and informative speaker, with
Professor John Crispo of the
University of Toronto providing
the Keynote Address on “Educa-
tion and Training: Canada’s Com-

carry out the overall administra-
tive responsibilities of the Applied
Programs division.

"Chris is a very capable in-
dividual and has taken over her
duties very quickly," says John Mc-

assistance and cooperation you
can give in helping Chris to feel
comfortable in her position and to

Did You Know...

e e e e That Douglas College is named after Sir James Douglas, who was
the first Governor of British Columbia? He was born in the West Indies
and raised in Scotland. He rose through the ranks of the North West
Company and the Hudson’s Bay Company until he was in charge of Fort
Victoria; he was appointed Governor of Vancouver Island in 1852, and
Governor of Mainland British Columbia in 1858. His years as Governor
were marked by the turmoil of the Gold Rush in British Columbia.
Douglas retired in 1864, and was knighted soon afterward. He died in
1877.
