Athletic Update Curling Canadian Champions The men’s team, skipped by Sean Aune, narrowly defeated host Cariboo College 8-7 to win the Canadian Colleges Curling Champion- ships in Kamloops last week. Third Brian Miki, 2nd Ron Leech and Lead Darren Fenton shot high percentages to defeat Alberta in the semi-finals. The Douglas team was first after a round robin competition, losing their only game of the entire competition to last place Saskatchewan. Thank you to Dawn Makey for accompanying the team as College Representative and lending a great deal of moral support. Badminton Sian Wins the Canadians Sian Deng returned from the Canadian National Women’s Badmin- ton Championships held in Saskatoon this week a winner. Defeating last year’s champion, Denise Jolien, was a major upset as Sian was seeded second. Sian also defeated Burnaby’s Claire Backhouse- Sharpe in the semi’s and won the Women’s Doubles with partner Dorris Piche of Quebec. Great work, Sian! Athletic Banquet Volunteers Needed To work for a few hours at the Athletic Banquet bar or at the door during the social after the banquet on Friday, April 20. It should be a great evening. Chris Johnson is M.C. and the coaches make speeches that are reasonably interesting. Call Betty Lou at 5043. @ College Assembly The work of the ad hoc committee which has been advising me during the governance review, and making recommendation for change, has almost completed its work. The committee's final report, including a draft model, will be published in the next edition of “The Insider’. Please watch for your copy. I will present the model for your comment and criticism. This is an extremely important step toward what I expect will be the implementa- tion of a new governance system in September. I look forward to seeing you on April 25th, 4:15-6:00. Bill Day.
