» vay Schreiber Wednesday March 17 It’s St. Patty’s day in the city of Vancouver! My suggestion on this the drunkest of all the holidays that involve green beer is to head out for a jolly ol’ night on the town to see what our fair city has to offer. The Granville strip is notorious for its Irish pub scene, having several jolly green watering holes all within a several blocks of each other. Ceili’s Pub is a great place for live music and a younger crowd; while O’Doul’s is more about the company you keep set to live background jazz. Lennox is all about the intimate setting and probably has the best beer selection and food in town! Or you could just end up at the Blarney Stone, but who would want to do that? Thursday, March 18 If you’re still standing after last night, then there are several options for you to choose from. Jay Malinowski from Bedouin Soundclash is having an “intimate night” at the Biltmore Cabaret, which may be interesting to check out. If southern twang is more your style, then go to the Abbotsford Entertainment center to see Reba McEntire perform in the boonies. Friday, March 19 Tonight, you can check out some of the best classical music at Christ Church Cathedral when the West Coast Symphony plays Verdi’s infamous Requiem. On home soil, tonight is also the opening night for The Suicide a play by John Patrick Shanley that is being presented by the Douglas Theatre Department. Worry not, students of Douglas, this play isn’t as morbid as it sounds Saturday March 20 It’s a big night for live music, with many venues having bills full of great bands to check out. The Jolts are doing a set at the Biltmore Cabaret, if you want to see a good rock show, but if metal is your game, then head to Cheers in Delta to see local group 13" Prophet tear up the stage. If it don’t mean a thing cause it ain’t got that swing, then you want to be at the Evergreen Cultural Center to see a great line up of local players featuring Brad Turner and Andre Lachance. Wanna be-bop your way downtown? Then hear the Sharon Minemoto Trio play at O’Douls. Don’t want to listen to original music at all? Go to Fairview pub to see Radiohead cover band The Bends.
