BROWN PUBLISHES PAPER (entry instructor, Bob Browne, has just published the first paper arising from the work he did while on educational leave last year at UBC. It is en- titled "Dynamic Range Enhancement of Photodiode Array Spectra” and will appear in the next issue of Applied Spectroscopy. The project was done under the guidance of Dr. M. Blades and involved interfac- ing a microcomputer with a plasma spectrometer and writing the data acquisition software to run it. Bob plans to continue his collaboration with Dr. Blades and in return the College will be given access to data processing software which can be used in the chemistry laboratory. COLLEGE GOLF TEAM LEADS The Douglas College golf team travelled to Kamloops on October 2, 3,4 for the first leg of the British Columbia Athletes As- sociation (BCCAA) golf championship. The tournament was played on the beautiful but very demanding Rivershore Golf Course, the site of the B.C. Amateur golf championship this past summer. This year’s championship is a 72-hole event with 36 holes being played at Rivershore and 36 holes at Nanaimo Golf and Country Club on October 17 and 18. After the first 18 holes Douglas held a two stroke lead over Mt. Royal College and a three stroke lead over Malaspina College. However, after 36 holes Douglas had stretched its lead to six strokes over Mt. Royal, seven strokes over Cariboo College and eleven strokes over Malaspina College. As a result Douglas had a bit of a cushion entering the final 35 holes in Nanaimo. Bob McCusker had the best single 18 hole for the weekend with 75 on Sunday, and was second overall for the 36 holes. Howling winds, deep rough, slick greens and the most heavily bunkered course in B.C. made scoring difficult for all golfers. Team totals after 36 holes were: Douglas College - 490, Mt. Royal College - 496, Cariboo College A - 497, Malaspina College -501, Selkirk College - 545, Cariboo College - 576, Royal Roads Military College - 599. Playing on the Douglas College team this year are Bob McCusker, Jamie Ivers, Jim Faraday and Craig Cruickshank, with coach Gert Van Niekerk.
