The Mets are 1.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies with four games to play, and are tied with the Milwaukee Brewers for the NL Wild Card. The Mets seemed to be orchestrating a team meltdown similar to the one that left them out of the playoffs last year. Even before the playoffs begin, the drama has started. The races in both leagues are tight, and should go down to the wire. The Fall Classic promises to be exciting as usual, and who knows, we could see a Boston Red Sox versus Chicago Cubs World Series, and that would be a huge treat to all baseball fans. Garth McLennan sports editor ar Top Canuck prospects Wii this summer may not have lived up to many Canuck fans’ expectations, for the first time in a long, long while, the Vancouver Canucks have some decent prospects in the cupboard. Without a doubt, the organization’s top prospect is Cody Hodgson. Hodgson, 18, was drafted in the first round of the 2008 NHL entry draft and is being touted as one of the best all-around players in the draft. A center, Hodgson has all the right tools: he is considered to be a solid skater and an excellent talent at both ends of the ice with a good, but not outstanding, shot. He’s also strong on the puck and has superb hockey sense. Beyond that, Hodgson’s best attribute is his leadership skills. He was a star on several Canadian junior national teams and has put up terrific numbers at every level he’s played. After Hodgson, goaltender Cory Schneider is one of the Canuck’s top prospects. With Roberto Luongo in goal for the foreseeable future, that makes Schneider valuable trade bait. The Canucks took him in the first round, 26" overall, in the 2004 draft. He’s honed his game over three seasons with Boston College, and last year with the Manitoba Moose, and has finally acclimated himself to the pro game.
