The Douglas College Newsletter m@ New Westminster Campus, David Lam Campus & Thomas Haney Campus INside_.. New College Web site unveiled Planning and hard work has paid off. The new and improved Douglas College Web site is open for business. “We've had a lot of compliments and good suggestions that will help us fine-tune the site, says Laurie Robinson, Web Design Coordinator in the Communications & Marketing Office (CMO). “Tt will always be a work in progress, but most of the redesign is complete. Last August I made some immediate changes to the existing site to make it more user-friendly, and then slowly worked up to the big change that you see now.” Robinson, who has six years experience as a graphic designer and three as a Web designer, joined the CMO last July. The big Web site change wasn't an easy one. “Along with many other projects, I've spent the last nine months doing storyboards, brainstorming and consulting with Distributed Learning Services, researching and analyzing other Canadian college and university Web sites, attending workshops, reading and generally upgrading my own skills,” says Robinson. “We've done a lot of background work on the site.” In addition to a redesign of the look of the Web site, existing features of the Web site have been enhanced and improved, and there are many additions as well. “We're just about to get started on updating and enhancing the on-line calendar,” says Robinson. Curriculum guidelines Laurie Robinson, Web Design Coordinator in the Communications and Marketing Office, unveils the newly redesigned College Web site. “Converting a 300-page document into a functional Web site format is always challenging.” Access to the Web site for people with disabilities is also an issue. “There is more required to make the site more user-friendly for people with disabilities,” says Robinson. “This is high on our priority list.” The Web site can be found at the same address, www.douglas.bc.ca. Input from the College community aids in the development of the Web site, so constructive comments are always welcome. Please e-mail them to webcmo@douglas.bc.ca. now available The Registrar's Office is pleased to announce that approved Curriculum Guidelines will now be available for viewing and printing through a shared directory on the K: drive under the “Approved” file by course category as of April 2000. You must have a Groupwise account in order to access this directory. Our goal is to eventually post this directory to the Web to assist students, faculty and outside institutions in gaining valuable and necessary information to further develop student success. As time permits, the faculty/ departmental assistants will transfer Guidelines that have already been processed to this directory in order to present a more complete library.
