TO: oe DOUGLAS COLLEGE BOARD January 17, 1985. a2 = On January 15th, Karen Kerr of the Ontario Ministry of Universities and Colleges, interviewed the senior administrators of the College as part of a review being carried out by the Ontario government on Adult and Continuing Education. Internal Matters - Education Registration occurred between January 2nd and 4th. It was heavy, and showed a proportional increase over last year's registration, similar to that which occurred in September. On January 9th and 10th, I met with senior administrators and selected staff, to review our 5-Year Plan and explore the future in some detail. Dr. Terry Clement organized and led the workshop, which was very successful. It was apparent that 2 days was not sufficient, and a third day is being held next week to complete our work. These discussions have been very helpful in clarifying our longer term assumptions, and identifying the operational implications of these assumptions for the near future. Marjory Ralston, Chair of the Governance Review Committee, informs me that work is progressing satisfactorily, and that she expects a report and recommendation to be in my hands by the end of the Semester. A meeting was held last night of the Douglas College Student Trust, at which time plans were laid for an interesting and exciting program of activities for the next fiscal year. A detailed report will be made later in the evening. Internal Matters - Personnel I have been informed that the negotiating committees of the College and the BCGEU are in a position to recommend a new contract. The Board will be considering this in closed meeting, therefore I will make no further comment. The College, the D/KFA, and the BCIT Staff Society have been making representations to the Labour Relations Board in regard to the hiring by Douglas College of a number of Psychiatric Nursing instructors, formerly employed by BCIT. Presentations have been made this week. We expect that the final presentation will be made January 23rd. It may be some weeks if not months, before the find- ings of the Labour Relations Board will be given to us. Internal Matters - General The Board will be pleased to know that the Douglas College women's and men's volleyball teams are both in the top 10 (actually, 9th positions) in the cross-Canada Inter-collegiate Volleyball Conference. This is the first time that a Douglas College team has made "the top 10", and it is double pleasure that both our men's and women's teams have got there simultaneously. WLD/gb
