In carrying out this detailed examination of the
“under-ice laboratory", Cousteau and his crew of divers
took cameras through the interior of icy cave-like

 

catacombs to underwater depths inhabited by a wide variety
of life, including even octopi. The expedition resulted
in the gathering of valuable information pertaining to
Krill, the red planktonic shrimp that forms the base of the
Antarctic food chains and which may eventually solve human
food problems through plankton "farming".

HUMAN JOURNEY SPECIAL

"The Learning Process", a much-discussed program in
the award-winning "Human Journey" series, will be re-telecast
on BCTV at 10 pem. Sunday, March 3. This fascinating hour-long
look at learning includes a demonstration, with the help of
animation, of how the brain functions when we experience the
acquisition of knowledge. The program also covers different
educational systems, sleep-learning, learning via television,
teaching equipment and computer-assisted education.

Guests on "The Learning Process" include controversial
author John Holt whose book, "Freedom and Beyond" advocates
non-compulsory education available to everyone through
community resource centres. Psychologist Dr. David Premack
discusses his experiments with chimpanzees and an autistic
child being taught to communicate in symbol language. Other
experts express views on learning disabilities, open schools
and learning outside the school. "The Learning Process"shows
clearly the possibility that the rate of acquiring knowledge
can be significantly increased with the highly sophisticated
techniques available today.
