INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / APRIL 18, 1989 Douglas College Staff Member to Race in World Dragon Championships Paul B. Taylor, an employee in the Chemistry Department, along with Dr. Tec. Vaughn- Jones of Ladner, and Rick Hermes of Vancouver, will be sailing as one of the four Canadian teams entering the Royal Helenic Cup to be sailed in Torquay, Devon, England from Aug. 27 to Sept. 2 of this year. Incidently Paul was born in Devon. The Dragon is a 29 foot, frac- tional rig, international one design racing sloop with very elegant lines. Dr. T.V. Jones has recently acquired a used fiberglass Dragon which the trio is rebuild- ing for the races. This "new" Dragon is being rigged as close as possible to the Dragon that they have successfully raced recently in Canada and the U.S. This trio looks qualified to do well in the World Champion- ships. In 1988 they won more than 45 races and ‘13 of 15 regat- They hope to better their pre- vious best of 5th in a championship that should attract more than 50 dragons. tas. Their international racing experience includes wins in Hong Kong, Australia, U.S.A. and Europe against some of the worlds elite Dragon sailors.
