CL] CONFERENCE °87 Lie Entrepreneurship C™ & Education ACCC Conference '87 - What's in it for me? The ACCC Conference '87 which is being organized by the Golden Horseshoe Colleges (Conestoga, Mohawk, Niagara and Sheridan) will be held at the Hamilton Convention Centre, June 1-4, 1987. Our theme is "Education in an Entrepreneurial Society". Over the last few months I have had the opportunity to discuss this year's Conference and its theme with a number of faculty across the country. I would like to take this opportunity to dispel the notion that the ACCC Conference is directed at administrators only. This year the Program Committee has as two of its objectives to develop a program that is entrepreneruial in its approach and to design a program that will serve as a professional development activity for the nation's college faculty members. As a result of these goals the following activities/sessions are being developed. Faculty Awards for Innovation in Teaching For the first time in its history the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (at ACCC Conference ‘87's request) is coordinating the recognition of faculty members who have demonstrated innovation in their teaching. Entries will be solicited from the 126 member colleges across Canada and reviewed by a committee chaired by Bruce McAusland, President, St. Clair College. Recipients will be presented with their awards by The Honourable Lincoln Alexander, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario at the Opening Celebration on Monday, June 1, 1987. The Conference fees for the recipients will sponsored through the generosity of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association, Nominations for these awards may come from any college staff member and the nomination form must be signed by both the college president and the nominee. For futher information, please call the ACCC offices in Toronto at (416) 489-5925. A general mailing to all college presidents will be handled by the ACCC offices in early February. t A National Teleconference In order to involve those faculty and administrators who would not he able to attend ACCC Conference '87, the Program Committee decided to organize a teleconference featuring the world renowned Dr. Edward de Bono, the originator of the concept of lateral thinking. This national professional development activity will take place on Tuesday, June 2 at 13:30 EDT, from the Great Hall in Hamilton Place and will be produced by the media students of both Niagara and Mohawk Colleges. We are hoping that at least 80 educational institutions will sign up for this telecast. For the site fee of $400. (Cdn.) for member institutitions, the college will receive the signal and an Edukit containing material prepared by Dr. de Bono, 10 copies of suggested discussion questions for the local sessions following the Teleconference and an evaluation form.
