The library has just received a series of
cassette tapes on various topics related
to personal development. These tapes may
be used by anyone, particularly students
who have limited reading ability or are
print impaired. The tapes have been
catalogued like text books. The topics

Signs for Computing Technology

The birth of computer vocabulary has
caused a problem for many deaf people who
want to access computers. It is difficult
to explain the vocabulary in sign language
when no signs exist. Steven L. Jamison,
an IBM employee and a consultant on the
communication, education, and employment
needs of deaf people has compiled and
edited a book establishing standardized
signs for computer related terms. The
book gives sign language equivalents for
some 600 expressions like "byte", "chip",
"diskette", etc.

This manual has been a welcome edition in
that it provides a standardized vocabularly
for communicating and comprehension. At
