INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / DECEMBER 11, 1990 College Staff/Alumni Elected to Association Board t’s a natural progression. First they were Douglas College stu- dents, then staff, and now they’re helping the Douglas College Alum- ni Association in its effort to raise funds and increase services for stu- dents and graduates. Recently, Heather Campbell of Instructional Media Services (IMS) was elected to the post of Alumni Association President, while Bruce Clarke, also from IMS, and Geor- gina Ferguson of Student Services have taken up positions on the Association’s Board of Directors. Campbell began studying at Douglas College in 1978, and she has been an Alumni Board mem- ber for the past year. She hopes that her Presidency will raise the profile of the Association. “We are in the process of generating a data base of Alumni, but there is a tremendous number of people who don’t even know that there is an Alumni Associa- tion and some of those people are staff alumni,” says Campbell. “Since Iam on campus every day, Iam available to answer any ques- HEATHER CAMPBELL was recently elected President of the Douglas College Alumni Association. He sees potential in the Association’s scholarship fund- raising abilities, and in the special events that they run, such as the annual Career Fair. The Alumni Association can do a lot for stu- dents, he says. “The purpose of the Associa- tion is to be an advocacy group for students,” says Clarke. “I am glad to be part of it because when I was a Douglas College student back in 1970, I had to learn the ropes from those who were more experienced. Now I can lend my experience to help new students.” Similarly, Georgina Ferguson got involved in the Alumni As- sociation so that she can help foster the spirit that she en- countered as a Douglas College student. “Tam also an S.E.U. alumnus, but I decided to join the Douglas College Alumni Association be- cause I am especially grateful for the opportunity and guidance that I received here as a returning adult student in 1978.” Ferguson says.
