Douglas College Women’s Rugby is in high gear this season. First Division remains undefeated and Second Division puts up a tough fight every game, win or lose. The West Coast Women’s Rugby League provides plenty of hard competition from 19 BC teams, including UBC, SFU and the Ex-Britannia Lions as well as several squads from Vancouver Island and the Interior. With a team in the league for over six years, the First Division women are veterans, counting three provincial players and one Team Canada member in their number. Many players are giving back to their favorite sport by coaching at the high school level — helping to foster what has become BC’s fastest-growing women’s sport. This year, it was the large number of enthusiastic players coming out of high school that allowed Douglas College to field a Second Division team. Head Coach Dave Dando and Assistant Coach Dan Riordan keep energy levels high, modeling excellent skills and great attitude won from 20 years combined experience. §f
