Arts & Entertainment Local talent shines at full moon pub night Siavash Rokni Te Douglas College Student Union building was the scene of a special Douglas College “under the moon” party on Thursday, February 21. The event consisted of live music, low priced drinks, free food, and many raffle prizes including two free tickets to an upcoming Canucks game. Turnout for the event was higher than the last DSU pub night and featured several “This pub night was one of our best country music featuring all original tunes composed by Brandon Webb himself. Brandon expressed concern on how the New Westminster music scene is not well established and in need of more attention. Next, I talked to Jay Schreiber of the band Static. Static is a three piece rock band with Jay Schreiber on the drums, Sun-Raj on guitar and Randon on the bass. Jay Schreiber and his friend Ryan Hasse—both from the music department of Douglas College—were also the organizers of the pub night. Jay had previously been involved in organizing another pub night last November known as ‘““November-Fest.” “IT am really proud to go to a school that allow us the capability of organizing a pub night like this” Jay said during the interview. “We wanted to organize an event were everybody could come out and have a lot of fun. I . a local bands, some of this sSemes te rr am pleased and absolutely whom had members that attended Douglas College. I had a chance to talk to each of the bands separately and hear their opinions of the evening. First, I talked to Brandon Webb from “The Wicks” who is a history major at the Douglas College. With Rob Paccagan on bass, David Charan on guitar, and Jaden Bodin on drums, The Wicks offers a blend of rock, blues and —Ally MacGrotty overjoyed with tonight’s turnout.” I also interviewed Grand Theft Radio, a local punk rock band from Surrey, which claims to take influence from bands such as Audioslave and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. The band features Michael Ewacha on the drums, Fraser Readman on the vocals, Sean McGowan on the guitar, Jamie Daviduk on the bass, and Trevor Hardy on lead guitar. The band specifically commented on how energetic the pub night’s crowd was. “Crowd matters. The better the crowd, the better the show. That’s what keeps us going,” Fraser Readman said. “I would like to Thank our loyal fans for supporting us in this event,” added Sean. The pub night continued untill lam with amaizing beats from DJ NAP, as well as_ plenty of drinks and dances. “This pub night was one of our best this semester with diverse group of individuals,” said Alysia MacGrotty, the DSU External Relations Officer. “I would like to thank all the musicians for their great performances. As well, I would like to thank Jay Screiber and Ryan Hasse for their effort in making this event happening,” she added.
