Mona Grace of the Foundation invites employees to support students through the Buy-A-Book campaign. Buy-A-Book campaign aids students he Douglas College Foundation is asking employees to help students hit the books. The Foundation has organized a Buy- A-Book Campaign in which College employees can fund the purchase of books through tax-deductible donations. Since the average cost of obtaining a new book is approximately $52, a payroll deduction of $1 per week for a year is suggested (deductions would begin in January); one- time donations are also welcome. The target for donations is $7,500. Similar campaigns have already proven successful in other B.C. post- secondary institutions. “We want people to be aware that as student numbers increase there is not always enough government funding to keep pace. This offers a direct way for employees to support students,” says Mona Grace of the Foundation. Grace adds that donors can suggest subject fields they wish to support or they can specify the purchase of multi-media items such as educational CD-Roms. Donors will be acknowledged through inclusion in the Foundation Annual Report and on a College plaque.
