Virginia Chisholm Memorial Award The Douglas College which brings together the unlikely combination of William Shakespeare’s sonnets and seven of the most outstanding contemporary playwrights in America,” says director and College instructor Allan Lysell. “It’s an eclectic mix of comedy and tragedy.” 3:17 (disorderly desires), co-written by director David Bloom and College Theatre students, is a play where nothing is at is seems. “The setting is a kind of metaphysical bordello where people come looking for things that are missing in themselves,” says Bloom. “Whether it’s spiritual, physical, sexual — they are all looking for something deeper.” For show times, dates and other information, please call the Box Office at 527- 5488. System Files Jeremy Sun of Systems and Computing was married last year in China but was unable to bring his new bride home with him, until now. His new bride, Tao Chen, recently received her visa and College artwork needed for show The Amelia Douglas Gallery Committee is seeking your participation for the opening of a very special show. The committee is planning a special year 2000 opening featuring a celebration of the art work of Douglas College employees (staff, faculty and administrators). Art 2000 will showcase the talents of the members of the College community. A photograph or slide of each art work submitted should be accompanied by a short statement by the artist about the meaning and significance of the work for him or her. In addition to showcasing the artwork of College employees, a retrospective of some pieces of the extensive public collection of the Gallery will also be on display, each with a short statement of the history and context of the work. Everyone is encouraged to become part of the year 2000 celebration at the Gallery. College members interested in participating should submit their package to Barb Sekhon at the Language, Literature and Performing Arts fieldbase office, 527-5447 by November 15. Library named for legendary broadcaster The College Foundation held a naming ceremony October 5 for the newly named Bill Hughes Family Library at the New Westminster Campus. The ceremony was held in recognition of Hughes’ longtime support of Douglas College and his significant contributions to the Foundation, as well as his continued service as a Foundation Board member.
