Friday night saw Douglas defeat Cariboo 48-41 with only 35% shooting from he floor and 10% from the line. The Douglas post players led the way with Sheri Zimmerman scoring 16 in the Ist, and combined for 16 rebounds as well. Saturday in Okanagan’s new sportsplex, Douglas improved their shooting percentage to 49% from the floor and 65% from the line to steal a 50-47 win from the home team. Lori Phillip who was injured all of the Ist team is back and playing well, she had 5 steals, 7 assists and 11 points vs Okanagan. Phillip’s 11 points coupled with Tania Penafiel’s | 1 and Marlee Siemen’s 16 points was enough to put the Royals over the edge. Luckily none of the injuries are serious, thus allowing the full squad to take on Trinity Western and Camosun at home on Friday Feb.11 and Sat- urday Feb. 12. Game times are set for 8pm Friday and 6pm on Saturday. Also, Friday night's game will be televised on Roger’s Cablevision. NMen Sweep New Caledonia The Douglas College Men’s Basketball.team traveled to Prince George this past weekend to take to the court against the College of New Caledonia for a pair of games. Douglas came home with four needed points as they defeated the Kodiaks 85-83 on Friday and 82-73 on Saturday. Friday saw a very even first half with Douglas going to the locker room with a 38-37 advantage. Douglas exploded out of the gate in the second half, with Onkar Hayre scoring 17 points during the first 10 minutes. With Douglas ahead by 14 points, the Kodiaks were able to slowly chip away at the Royals’ lead, eventually tying the score at 80 with 1 minute left. From that point on, Douglas made 5 of 6 free throws compared to 0 and 4 by the Kodiaks to take the victory 85-83. Scott Walton led the Royals with 21 points, while Hayre added 20 and 7 assists. Saturday saw a similar type of contest as the evening prior with Douglas having an easier time of it. Douglas came away with a 82-73 vic- tory. Ben Mayan led the Royals with 17 points, with Walton adding 15 points. With the pair of victories, Douglas upped its BCCAA to 9 & 3, tied for 3rd place and only 2 points out of first place.
