A CTV crew visited our gym on July 14 to film a story on Marni Abbott, a member of the Canadian Women's Wheelchair Basketball team coached by Douglas College’s Tim Frick. The team is competing this month at the Paralympics In Barcelona. What students want If they finish high school, they will almost certainly seek post-secondary training. In fact, 97 percent of B.C. students com- pleting secondary school plan to enter some level of post-secondary education within three years of leaving high school. That's one of the findings of a new survey by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Training and Technology. The Client Sur- vey Project, now available in the Douglas College Library, asked more than 5,000 high school completers, first-year post-sec- ondary students, apprentices and employers about their expectations of post-secondary education. Issues examined in the study include: stu- dent expectations by age and gender; employer satisfaction with graduating stu- dents; student dissatisfaction with program offerings and financial aid. Results also demonstrated that the debate over the objectives of post-secondary edu- cation - whether to learn marketable skills or obtain a well-rounded liberal edu- cation - is still very much alive. "I’m here for a job. The job is the bottom line," re- plied one respondent. Another answered: "knowledge for yourself is just as important." « _ TAKE HOME A TREE Wanted!
