INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE/NOVEMBER 29, 1988 Briefs int Non-Smoking Building Policy: Peter Greenwood, College Bursar, reports that at its meeting on November 17th the College Board, after considerable discussion, passed the following motion: "THAT the College Board approve the College becoming a non-smoking facility, once a designated area for smokers has been identified that prevents the recirculation of smoke within the building.” The financial aspects will now be looked into through Capital priorities once an area and costs for various proposals on how this can be accomplished are identified. If sufficient funds cannot be found in this year’s capital, then the item will be placed on the 1989/90 Operating Capital request list for consideration. Therefore, present arrangements for smoking will continue in force until further notice. Sold Out: Congratulations to the Theatre Department. They sold out four out of eight performances of their hit "Kiss Me Kate". Inspiring Insects: An inspiring insect collection will be on display in the Biology Lab (Room 3712) on Wednesday, November 30, from 10:00 am. until 5:00 pm. Rhonda Johnson, a Douglas College science student, has been working on her insect collection for years. She has assembled an impressive array of @ beetles, butterflies, and other interesting creatures. They are beautifully displayed, and definitely designed for "flash". Rhonda’s knowledge of insects is extensive and she will be available to answer questions. Don’t miss this opportunity to come nose to nose with the exotic animals she has for you to see. Reserves for Spring: To ensure that course reserve material is ready for the start of the Spring semester, please submit your reserve requests to the Library by December 15th. Reserve request forms are available at the Circulation counter. Please note that reserves are usually materials for required course readings and are expected to be in heavy demand by students. Term Papers & the Library: Virginia Chisholm, Director of Learning Resources, would like to clarify that the Library accepts papers from students when the curriculum field bases are closed, after 4:30 pm. and on Saturdays ONLY. The staff will date stamp the term paper, indicate the time, initial it and place it in the College mail system addressed to you. The Library will NOT accept term papers at any other time, nor will the staff date stamp a paper for return to the student. Please advise your students of these procedures and help us prevent confusion and frustration.
