With a population that is growing modestly, but aginy relatively
rapidly, the College will be expected to provide a continued high level
of community programs and services, complementiny those offered by the
school districts. This will include community-related programs in
performing theatre and dance, in addition to the existing music
peoyram., This will provide a context for possible media-related
technical proyrams.

It is clear that the existiny curriculums of BCIT, PVI, and
Kwantlen Colleye represent a major training investment by the province
in enyineering and trades-based occupations. These tend to be
expensive and highly capitalized, and for that reason, it can be
expected that the Ministry will be hesitant about makiny an additional
mayor investment before it has maximized investment in current
proyrams. Therefore, the Douglas Colleye contributions in this field
will likely evolve from research and programming activity among the
small-to-medium sized manufacturiny and distribution industries within
its region. Following such survey and development work, a suitably
defined role for the Colleye in engineeriny-related proyrams will be
identified. In the meantime, the plans for the College include
necessary research and development funds, in order to document
proposals for new funds, or to justify shifts in budget allocations.
