Mad Hatter Page 4 The Board will be interested to know that the College now has formal representation in all the Chambers of Commerce in our region - Dr. Terry Clement, Burnaby; Mr. M.H. (Bill) Morfey, New Westminster; Ms. Randi Duke, the Coquitlams; Mr. Larry Davies, Maple Ridge. I expect that over the next year, the College will be actively engaged with social partners on questions of job creation, and local economic development in all of our municipalities. EXTERNAL MATTERS - EDUCATION O¢tober 16, the College hosted the first formal meeting of School District officials in order to address matters of common educational concern and opportunity. The Board will remember that this process is occuring under the direction of the College Board and the four school districts in the College region - the intent being, to maximize educational resources in the region, to the public benefit, and to maintain a continuing working relationship with our educational partners. The initial meeting consisted of a round-table discussion between myself and the four district Superintendent of schools. We have identified three major areas of concern and potential mutual benefit that stem from matters discussed by the joint meeting of the Boards and the College Board last spring. Over the next month there will be a meeting of senior officials from the four districts and the College to discuss these three areas of interest, in order to assess feasibility and to define more precisely the nature of the proposed cooperation. I expect that by the end of November, we will be convening a meeting of the designated trustees and College Board members in order to present to them an interim report and recommendation. if our report and recommendation is found acceptable, it wiil be presented to the five Boards for ratification. Our tarcet date for implementation is September 1, 1985, as per the cycle of consultation and decision making outlined in the origina! multi-lateral agreement. | continue tu be active on two committees sponsored by the Council of Principals - on the one hand. a joint committee established at the request of the Pritish Columbia Association of Colleges on public information and on the other, a new committee developed to devise and sponsor management develop- ment educational activities for College administrative personnel.
