The Ministry of Labour sponsored program enables students to develop skills to enter the work force, and. contribute to the social and economical development of the province. Last year 33 positions were sponsored by the . college and the same amount of jobs is expected this year according to Jones. ““A lot of students don’t know they can organize a project, providing they can get adequate supervision from a faculty or admini- stration employee,’’ ‘said Jones. ° Jones also says that stu- dents who are interested in some sort of research the program is a good opportu- nity. ; “Last year one student wanted to do. research about the gay community in Vancouver, it would have been possible except the student found work up north,’’ Jones said, but she |: added that the contro- versial nature of the subject did not have any bearing on the funding of the project. To be eligible students must be enrolled in at least nine credit courses and _ have attended one full time semester since October 1979. Deadline submissions is March 4 and noon. Students interested can go to a special orientation meeting February 27 in Room 304 on the New Westminster campus from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., or can call Lorraine Jones at 521-4851. ‘Power of Potential’, a Women’s Study course offered by Douglas College, will examine some of the attitudes and_ inhibitions that prevent. women from: realizing their full poten- tial. The course will encour- age development of self- confidence, increase of motivation and discovery of | personal strengths through group activities and discus- sions. ‘Power of Potential’ is co- sponsored with the Port Moody Parks and Recre- ation Department and will be held at the Kyle Street Recreation Centre in Port Moody Sunday, March 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Cost of the course is $15 and participants are asked to bring a lunch.
