_ Nove Say goodbye to the Year of the Rat. On February 7, it’s time to welcome in the first day of 4695 (on the Chinese lunar calendar) and the Year of the Ox. On Saturday, February 8, you can check out local Chinese New Year celebrations at the New Westminster Quay, complete with a traditional lion dance at 1 pm. And while you’re at the market, you might want to get ready for that other day coming up on February 14. You know, the one with the hearts and the candy. But whatever you decide to celebrate this month, INside wishes you gung hai fat choy ... and lots of chocolate. We goofed... Apologies to good-natured Brian Pratt and Bob McConkey, who had their wires crossed because of a typo in last month’s INside Zone. For the record, the New Westminster local for Bob, seconded civil servant and acting Director of Community and Contract Services, is 5169. To contact Janet Knowles while she’s in Pakistan, by the way, the correct e-mail address is Play it again, Shelley... Shelley Hay of Financial Services has been hitting the right notes lately as part of a musical duo playing around town. A vocal jazz fan, Hay reports that she and her musical partner are calling themselves simply Bob and Shelley . . . or maybe Shelley and Bob. However you decide to bill yourselves, best of luck to you both. And on that note... Music Instructor Kathryn Cernauskas traveled to Montreal and Toronto last month to perform with her flute, piano and cello trio. Closer to home, fellow Instructor Ellen Silverman started the year by performing Bartok’s Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion at Kwantlen University College, with former student and current Douglas College Instructor Bob Caldwell and ex-student Nick Coulter on whisks, clangs and beats. Surprise for Susan... The winner of November’s 60/40 Draw (calculated from December payroll deductions) is Early Childhood Education’s Susan Fraser. Susan received $796.80 while student aid increased by $531.20. Just do it... Over in Coquitlam Administration, Yvonne Mostert is collecting entries from all campuses for this year’s Sun Run, set to take place April 20. If you’re interested, just let your fingers do the walking to local 5868 for an entry form. The $25 entry fee includes a coveted official t-shirt and allows you to walk, run or jog your way to the finish line as part of the Douglas College Corporate Team. Both form and fee must be in Yvonne’s hands by Wednesday, February 12. Hong’s got a system... Systems and Computing’s Hong-Lok Li says he’s eating much better these days now that his mother’s in town from Hong Kong. INside thinks Douglas College should thank his mom for keeping Hong’s strength high enough to face another month of computer trouble-shooting (or was that shooting troubled computers’). LONE Marian to carry on... On January 15, Marian Exmann accepted a temporary appointment to serve as Director of Personnel and Labour Relations until December 21, 1997. For more information, call Marian at local 5342. Student Development staff changes... Dean Ted James welcomes Liz Wilson back to the Women’s Centre, as Drena McCormick moves to Financial Aid. Jo- Anne Kyle has moved from that department to Disabled Student Services, with Louise Jenkins replacing her. Kristen Conboy is leaving Financial Services to take over as Language and Cultural Assistant as Vicki Condon head; for regular part-time in Student 9 Placement. Last but not least, Florence Korstrom has moved from auxiliary to regular as Student Services Assistant in Student Placement. More staff changes... Jun Clement has joined Systems & Computing as a new Technician, while Doreen Kreschuk is now permanent in the position of Computer Support Assistant. In the Office of the Registrar, Davinder Dhilion has replaced Elly Schnitzer as Records Assistant. In Purchasing, Nick Parker is now on regular staff as Buyer. Welcome Callum... Maureen Mackey of Psychiatric Nursing and husband Robert are pleased to announce the birth of their son, Callum McLean Mackey, who weighed in at six pounds, 14.5 ounces on December 5, 1996. fi
