_Mbso: Last month’s INside predicted that April showers would bring May flowers. Looking back, it seems the rhyme should have been that April showers bring more showers ... and more showers . . . and more showers. I guess that’s what you get for trying to outguess Mother Nature. For those of you looking at your drowned tomato plants and wondering if spring will come by summer, here’s a little news from around the College . . . and here’s hoping that June will finally bring the sun. Badminton Blunder... Last month’s INside incorrectly reported the names of Douglas College’s hard- working Badminton coaches. Apologies to Peter Chen and Dak Ban, and good luck for next season! Christine Untherthiner has also become the permanent part-time Alumni Relations Officer, with a temporary office number of 525-1307. On a general note, Basic Occupational Education Technicians and Employment Specialists have moved from Child, Family and Community Studies into Student Development, under new Dean Ted James. Trip Clip... Marty Sulek took a few days off from the Foundation for a quick road trip to Ontario with wife Alison, currently studying medicine in Calgary. Their favourite stop? Ottawa, believe it or not. “Because of the National Gallery, of course” says art-lover Marty, an active member of the Amelia Douglas Gallery Committee. Meanwhile, the Foundation’s Mark Crozet and spouse Darlene headed for Disneyland—and yes, Mark did meet Mickey—before taking a leisurely cruise back up the coast. Clip Trip... Media Librarian Susan Ashcroft screened eight illuminating video clips as part this season’s final WomenSpeak Institute event, “Imaging Women: Imagining Ourselves.” Susan arranged the images to show the history of representations of women from the beginnings of patriarchy to the present day. WomenSpeak’s Gillies Malnarich is now seeking ideas for next year’s program, so give her a call with your ideas. A Textbook Case... In appreciation for her being the first to submit fall Textbook Adoption Forms, the Bookstore awarded Psych Nursing Instructor Norma Vallentgoed a copy of Chicken Soup for the Soul. Bookstore Supervisor Margo Lott sends heartfelt thanks to all instructors who got their Forms in early. 12 LONE June Jubilant... The winner of May’s 60/40 draw was June Anderson, who picked up $801.60 while student aid increased by $534.40. June promises that she’ll spend every cent of her winnings in the Bookstore. Score 4-0... CET’s Christine Doyle recently celebrated her 40th birthday with a rousing game of basketball organized with friends. Official referee for the event was Auxilliary Writer Jeff McDonald, complete with special whistle loaned by Athletics and Intramurals’ Richard Williams. Christine enjoyed the post- game cake, but admits that “Forty candles throw a Jot of light.” Clomas Increase... Supervisor, Production and Network Services Phil Cloma and wife Beth are celebrating the May 11 birth of baby Mateo. Congratulations to all! |
